Loving, Proclaiming and Serving Christ so others may know him.

"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all I have commanded you.."  Matthew 28:19-20a

We at St. John's currently are reaching out into the community in the name of Jesus Christ and are actively and prayerfully listening to where God would have us go.

Pastoral Care Ministry:  Caring for members of the parish and our community is an important way of proclaiming Christ's love.  This ministry led by Terri Joiner sends prayer letters to those who are ill, shut-in or who have asked for our prayers.  Each letter is signed by the entire congregation following a service in which we have prayed for the individual.  Reaching out to others in time of stress, need or the loss of a loved one through cards, food and visits reinforces that in Christ we are not alone.

Prayer Shawl Ministry:  Truly ecumenical, this ministry is comprised of knitters from several denominations who meet weekly to make prayer shawls.  When completed the shawls are prayed over with specific recipients and their needs in mind.  The Prayer Shawl Ministry provides shawls to Phoebe-Sumter Hospice and the Oncology Department of Phoebe-Sumter Hospital.  You don't have to know how to knit, just have a willingness to learn and a heart to extend the love of Christ to others.
